Dyke Weekend 2012 Japan Summer Edition!

The summer edition is open for registration!

Minami Boso, Chiba

Sign up to surf, bike, soak in some sunshine this September as DWE takes over camp. That’s right, we have the surfboard, mountain bikes, body boards, pool table, bbq, bar and lounge all to ourselves. First 32 to sign up will be waking to up bountiful breakfasts and dinners by the fire. (There are ryokans and hotels nearby so no worries if this party gets too big!)

Just a 2 hour bus ride from Tokyo station, the Discover Japan lodge is a 2 level natural wood lodge located just a 5 minute walk from the beach, next door to a sento and walking/biking distance from restaurants.

Whether you come by train or by bus, they will try to pick you up at the station by van.

By JR Train:

JR Keiyo line from Tokyo Station. The New Sazanami express trains stop at Tateyama Station and the local will take you the two stops to Chikura Station.
The trains leave from Tokyo Station about every two hours for the two-hour trip to Tateyama. Chikura Station is just a ten minute walk from Nanbo Kokusai Mura.

By JR Highway Bus:
JR Highway Bus | Tokyo – Tateyama

The least expensive and most convenient way to travel to our lodge is via the highway bus that leaves Tokyo Station every hour or more. The bus lets you out eight minutes by foot from Nanbo Kokusai Mura. The trip takes about two hours and 20 minutes and is just about half the price of the train.

Chikura Eki

10 min from lodge, departure times from Tokyo Station:
11:20 | 14:20 | 16:20 | 18:20 | 19:50

*30 min drive/taxi from lodge.
*Pick up can be arranged if enough of you arrive at the same time
*Or you can take the train from Tateyama to Chikura, but the times vary and are not frequent

By Car:

Detailed driving directions from Tokyo/Yokohama can be emailed to you upon request. The trip is an easy two hours from Tokyo to Minami Boso via the Aqualine.

The Lodge

The lodge was lovingly designed and built by owner, cook, guide, science teacher and jokester, David Green.

(Below) The lodge at night; Signs and trinkets from the sea abound; David’s yes-I’d-like-a-second-helping French toast.

Low key or high, there’s something for everyone

Relax at the beach, hang out at the lodge and jam out on the guitars or explore the area with one of the lodge’s bikes. Either way, you’ll be wishing for a few more days. (Oh, and yes there is Wi-fi ;))

Herstory The Women’s International Group first gathered lesbian, bi and trans women for a weekend of politics and advocacy in 1985 for a Dyke Weekend (DWE). The gatherings grew to 3 to 4 weekends, and over time, DWE became a rite of passage for all lesbian, bi and trans women in Japan. Today, DWE is still active in bringing together queer women for weekends, which have grown to include workshops, seminars, guest speakers, sports and the much anticipated BBQ. DWE is a safe and encouraging space for women to explore, relax, contribute and catch up with the queer community. DWE is an entirely volunteer run group of women interested in keeping queer women connected in Japan and keeping the queer community in Japan connected to the queer dialogue. All ideas and support are welcome and necessary to keep the DWE epic! Keep in touch! dykeweekendjapan@gmail.com
